Demolition will happen in West Des Moines that should make room for additional green space on the Valley High School campus. The proposed demolition is part of a $60 million plan to improve the high school, and it will take down an historic barn on the campus that was built in the late 1880's. Sixteen months ago, the school district began contacting individuals and organizations in the community that it believed might be interested in preserving the barn, but nothing came of it. The district also placed ads in the Des Moines Register to sell the barn, but received no responses. The city of West Des Moines issued a permit to a demolition company yesterday.
