Ankeny Man Freed From Grain Bin

Rescue crews got an Ankeny man out of a grain bin in at the Heartland Co-op this afternoon. 56-year old Steve Kaufman, was buried up to his chest in grain. Two firefighters were lowered into the bin and tethered Kaufman in place while the grain was emptied. It took about three and a half hours to get Kaufman out. He was airlifted to an area hospital. Two other Heartland co-op workers and a firefighter were taken to a hospital as a precaution after exposure to grain dust.
