A spokesperson for Gov. Branstad says his plan to cut statewide preschool and replace it with tuition assistance on a sliding scale won't cost as much as the Legislative Services Agency says it will. Branstad's office tells the Des Moines Register the cost will go up to $515-thousand, but the Legislative Services Agency says it'll go as high as $1.2-million, primarily for verifying every family's income under the program.
