Jeffrey Krier, the man who gunned down a Keokuk County sheriff’s deputy yesterday, had a history of mental illness. A family spokesperson tells the Des Moines Register he was diagnosed as bipolar, and has had difficulty managing his illness. He was hospitalized in March for a week.
