Iowa lawmakers have new evidence that at a time when they want to spend less money. The Des Moines Register says a new study calls for a $30-million hike in spending to track sex offenders unless ways a found to cut costs while keeping the public safe. Special post-prison sentences for sex offenders will increase parole caseloads by more than 50% by 2020, and another 2300 sex offenders will have to be monitored for 10 years or life, under state law.
