A change in state law that changes funding to the counties on July 1 has county officials worried that they will be forced to drop mentally disabled people from their programs. The law moves Medicaid-funded mental health services from counties to the state in order to make services more uniform statewide. For some people with mental health issues that don't meet federal Medicaid qualifications, Iowas counties have been their safety net. Those people may find themselves without jobs and services in 3 weeks.
