Democrats have selected former state representative Mark Davitt as their nominee for Senate District 13.
Davitt faces incument Republican Julian Garrett in a special election in weeks.
Davitt served for six years in the Iowa House, but he lost his seat in 2008.
The District 13 seat opened when Republican Kent Sorenson resigned. An independent investigator has concluded Sorenson has likely broken ethics rules by receiving money from presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's political action committee and presidential campaign.
