The drought of 2012 is getting worse. State leaders said yesterday that some rivers and streams are at historically low levels. The Iowa DNR's Tim Hall says about 40 percent of Iowans get their drinking water from groundwater sources. Many towns rely on shallow wells, which tap into underground aquifers near the surface. Hall says thos communites are vulnerable to losing their water supply as streams and rivers dry up. According to the Department of Natural Resources, some rivers and streams throughout the state are so dry they're not even flowing.
