A peak water alert's been issued for the Des Moines metro area by 22-water utilities serving communities here. It's a notice that the area's closing in on a record amount of water use for the day, and everyone should be thinking conservation. KCCI reports the water use record for a single day was 92-million gallons in June 2006. Des Moines Water Works says customers used almost 84 million gallons Tuesday and 89 million yesterday.
