In light of the bridge collapse in Washington State this week, new questions have been raised about the safety of bridges throughout the state. Scott Neubauer, engineer with the Iowa Department of Transportation, says 21 percent of the state's bridges are structurally deficient. Neubauer says that the bridges go through strict inspections, and will be closed immediately if they are found unsafe.
