A record number of West Nile virus infections are being reported in the United States- with numbers jumping more than 60 percent in the past week. Federal officials say this is one of the country's biggest-ever outbreaks of the disease. The virus was first detected in the United States in 1999, and the CDC says the worst U.S. outbreak happend in 2003, with close to 10 thousand cases reported and 264 deaths that year.
