An Ankeny man will spend the rest of his life in prison after his second conviction in the killing of his ex-wife's lover. Vernon Huser continued to claim his innocence even as the judge handed down the sentence.A Polk County jury convicted him of first-degree murder last December. After his 2010 conviction, the Iowa Court of Appeals ordered a new trial for Huser, concluding his conviction was largely based on hearsay testimony that shouldn't have been allowed.
