If you're one of the 8,000 to 10,000 volunteers in the Des Moines School District who work with students, there's something new headed your way: background checks. WHO-TV reports starting the school district's starting to run them this school year. A spokesperson says the average $15 it'll pay for each check is a small price for an extra level of safety and security.
