Iowa Workforce Development's laying off 49-employees as of today because of the federal government shutdown. Iowa's Department of Administrative Services and AFSCME who represent the laid off workers say it's to avoid a permanent reduction in the workforce and minimize the shutdown’s impact. WHO-TV reports the layoffs are expected to last up to 60 days.
