A Des Moines woman wants wood stoves banned in the city. Brenda Walker says wood smoke is highly toxic to breathe. KCCI reports Walker is upset after living next door to a house on 44th Place that used to be heated with a wood burning stone all winter long. But current Environmental Protection Agency rules make new wood stoves much cleaner, because they burn the smoke within the device, too. Instead of banning old stoves, one seller of the stoves said the city should offer incentives to replace them.
