Some Boy Scout leaders in our area are opposed to a proposal to change membership to allow openly gay scouts. Opponents say it would put 17-year-old scouts in an awkward situation as they approach their 18th birthdays. The Boy Scouts' National Council will vote on the proposal next Thursday in Texas.
