Authorities say a Des Moines woman drowned after her car plunged into a lake following a police chase.
Polk County officials say it make take weeks to determine whether or not drugs or alcohol had anything to do with the death of 51-year-old Brenda Hatfield.
A West Des Moines officer tried stopping a car Wednesday morning, but it sped down a dead-end street. The officer later saw tire tracks towards Crystal Lake on the Des Moines Water Works property.
A dive team pulled the car from the lake and found Hatfield dead inside.
