Governor Brandstad, in an official pronouncement at his Des Moines home at Terrace Hill, declared he was invoking clemency and pardoning two turkeys by the names of Carmel and Apple, ahead of Thanksgiving. Carmel is a hen and Apple is a Tom and weigh a combined 67 pounds. Said the governor, “ I do hereby proclaim Carmel the Turkey and Apple the Turkey free from the harm of carving knifes and gravy This Thanksgiving Day,” close quote.
