Unskilled Iowans an Obstacle to Business Expansion

A state survey shows that the top reason businesses have for deciding not to expand in Iowa is the lack of qualified workers. 673 Iowa companies have plans to expand representing perhaps 7 thousand new jobs, but more than 384 of these companies say they are experiencing recruitment problems while 311 say they don't have room to expand. Most Iowa workers are categorized as middle skilled, meaning an education level between high school and an associates degree, while only 33% of jobs go to middle skilled workers.
