Some drivers got a surprise yesterday afternoon, when their usual skirting around the crossings on the UP tracks in Des Moines ended with pulled over by a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy, and given a $350 ticket. The Des Moines Register reports a sheriff's deputy was in the cab of a UP locomotive, calling out to other units as they rolled south through Des Moines' industrial tract waiting to pull them over.
