Population Changes in Iowa

Nearly 66% of Iowa Counties lost population from 2011 and 21012. The U.S. Census estimates show that Iowa had 3,074,186 residents last year, up about 11,000; but the population of 65 of the state's 99 counties fell. The biggest population gains were in Polk, Johnson, Dallas, Scott and Linn counties, which are home to Des Moines, Iowa City, Davenport and Cedar Rapids.
