AFSCME Starts Contract Talks

Iowa’s largest public employees’ union started talks with the state on a new 2-year contract for 20,000 members, and they're proposing a 1% pay hike in the first year and 2% in the second. The Governor's office says the deal would cost $122-million in year one, and $159-million the second year if all state workers are covered. The Des Moines Register reports state negotiators had no comment on the union presentation today.
