Year-Round School to be Proposed

Provisions for year-round school or an extended academic day will likely be part of the final education reform plan presented to the Legislature in January but won’t include mandates that all students spend more time in the classroom. Iowa Department of Education director tells the Des Moines Register the plan will probably offer strategies to increase instruction for struggling students. Parents and teachers have shown support for extending Iowa’s 180-day school year or lengthening the school day during town hall meetings focused on the education improvement proposals.
