Polk County Conservation Plan Goes to Voters in November

Polk County voters will decide in November yes or no to borrowing $50-million to pay for 20 years of improvements to trails, parks, rivers and streams. If voters approve, the Des Moines Register reports it'll mean an extra $9 more/year in property taxes on a house assessed at $100,000. Among the projects that could be funded- dredging and creek-bank stabilization projects at Thomas Mitchell, Fort Des Moines, Jester and Easter Lake parks.
