The City Council in Sioux City's approved a municipal code change that will for the first time allow a land based casino. The council actions covers a 462-acres in downtown. Among the requirements-no demolition of historic buildings, as well as specific rules on parking and building design. The state legalized riverboat gambling in 1989 and land-based casinos in 2007.
