Sympathy Shooting

Ten years in prison is what a Western Iowa man is facing after trying to arrange to have someone shoot him not once but twice - all in an effort to gain sympathy from his ex-wife. Prosecutors dropped some of the charges against Darren Hieber, of Mapleton, after he agreed to plead guilty to one charge of conspiracy and two counts of solicitation for the shootings. On February 5th Heiber told police he had been shot in the leg by a burglar - he accused of actually persuading an employee from his trucking business to shoot him. He is also accused of hiring two men from Nebraska to shoot at him in March. There were no injuries in that shooting - the three gunmen have been given probation
