Marshalltown wants to set a new marshmallow world record. The plan is to use 500 pounds of marshmallows to create a giant Christmas tree on Nov. 19 for the downtown business district's Holiday Stroll. Organizers told the Times-Republican newspaper they submitted an application to the Guinness Book of World Records in May and received approval yesterday to attempt the record. Plans are still being worked out on how to build the massive marshmallow Christmas tree.
