Crews were busy this morning installing a new flood gate on Guthrie Avenue and Saylor Road. It's part of an $8-million reconstruction of Des Moines Birdland Park levee. The projects to protect Birdland Park area homes, businesses and North High School, which have been hit hard by flooding on the Des Moines River during recent major flooding events. An official ribbon cutting event with the city and the Army Corps of Engineers is November 15th.
