UNI President Ben Allen's retiring as of July 1st of next year. Allen's had a busy year, that included cutting about 20% of academic programs, buying out more than 40 tenured faculty, and shutting down the Malcolm Price Laboratory School, where student teachers received training. The Des Moines Register reports it was done to close a $5-million budget hole.
