The State Fire Marshal says we've had more vegetation fires in the first 6 months of this year than all of 2010, and are close to the number for all of last year. The Des Moines Register reports that's despite burn bans in 66-counties, except Polk. Authorities have been issuing citations for ban violations, and they expect to issue more as the drought continues.
