Power is back on after a MidAmercian substation failed yesterday and caused an instant power outage for about 3000 customers. The outage grew to affect 7600 customers in Des Moines, West Des Moines, and Windsor Heights where it was pitch black for about five hours. Some residents said they heard what they thought was an explosion before the power went out. Most of the power is back on, but there are still two spots MidAmerican is working on in Des Moines and Ankeny.
