If you're a homeowner you should start seeing your new tax assessment in the mail soon, in fact beginning today. Property tax values, according to the Register, will dip an average of 3.1 percent for residential property and 5 percent for commercial property. Good news if you want to pay lower taxes, but bad news for county governments that are already strapped for cash and have trouble paying for core services like police and fire protection. Even with the lower tax assessments, counties still expect a heavy load of protests.
