Thurman Tornado Damages Large percentage of town

According to emergency officials, about three-fourths of the southwest Iowa town of Thurman was hit hard by a tornado, last night.
Fortunately, there were no injuries. Thurman is located about four miles east of Interstate 29 in Fremont County and has a population of about 250.
Emergency officials attribute the lack of injuries to the fact that The National Weather Service has been issuing warning about this since Thursday.
Officials had access to the town and directed residents to a Red Cross shelter set up at Fremont-Mills High School.
According to officials, in addition to the damage within city limits, a handful of tractor trailers were blown over on southbound I-29.
By 10 p.m., last night, emergency officials were stationed at Thurman City Hall, awaiting supplies from Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management, including a generator.
