Verizon Wireless says it's going to start charging $30 every time a subscriber wants to upgrade to a new phone. AT and T's already raised the fee for the same thing from $18 top $36. Verizon's new charge starts April 22nd. Cellphone company profits have been cut by the cost of subsidizing smartphones, especially iPhones, which KCCI reports usually cost hundreds more than their retail price.
