Gov. Gets Bill Pulling "Menatal Retardation" From Most State Laws

The State House has passed and sent to Gov. Branstad a bill removing the phrase "mental retardation" from most state laws. According to KCCI the action's part of a nationwide effort to encourage government and the public to stop using the term. The legislation replaces those words with "intellectual disability" Activists say "mental retardation" can be hurtful to people who have a variety of disabilities.
