Sen. Chuck Grassley says the Pentagon will face an uphill battle if it tries to go ahead with plans to wipe out the F-16 combat aircraft assigned to the Air National Guard in Des Moines. The planned cuts would eliminate half of the 1,000 airmen assigned here. The Des Moines Register reports Gov. Branstad and 48 other governors, signed a letter this week opposing the cuts they're calling disproportionate to cuts in full-time Air Force units
