First year teachers appear to like the Des Moines School District's alternate teacher contract. It gives them a higher starting salary, and they can earn their master's at the district's expense. In exchange, the teachers sign up for 4-years in an intensive new teacher training program and another four years completing graduate-level coursework. The Des Moines Register reports about 50-teachers have signed on for the alternative pay package.
