Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner Chris Godfrey refused a request from Gov. Branstad that he resign, so the Governor cut his salary by almost $36,000 this week. One Democratic senator tells the Des Moines Register the governor's actions could come close to extortion. But a spokesperson for Branstad says his actions are within his authority and in line with his desire to appoint his own people to key government posts.
