Iowa Soldier Dies Protecting Freedom

As we celebrate our country's independence, the cost of freedom hits home for one Iowa family. Jefferson, Iowa native Matthew Nielson, a US Army captain, was confirmed yesterday to have died last week in Badrah, Iraq. Nielson was killed during an indirect fire attack by insurgents on the base where he was stationed. Two other soldiers were also killed int eh attack, according to a Department of Defense release yesterday. Funeral arrangements are pending.
