Gavins Point Releases Slowly Coming Down

The Army Corps of Engineers says it'll lower the releases from the Gavins Point Dam to 40,000 cubic feet per second, a tad higher than the usual rate, by the end of September. The Des Moines Register reports officials expect that to return the Missouri River back inside its' banks. Iowa officials say releases will have to get under 70,000 before many areas are dry near the river. The Corps expects releases at Gavins to hit 40,000 cubic feet per second by Oct. 1.
