At least 24 house fires in the Des Moines area since 2007 have been linked to a popular flexible gas tube that fire officials say is vulnerable to is vulnerable to lightning damage. Fire officials tell the Des Moines Register thousands of homes, especially those built in the last two decades, are at risk. The product's cheaper and easier to install, but wasn't required to be bonded and grounded during installation until last year.
