Iowa Asks for Major Disaster Declaration from Pres. Obama

Gov. Branstad's asked the White House to issue a major disaster declaration for four counties slammed by severe weather and high winds earlier this month. The Des Moines Register reports the request would cover Benton, Marshall, Story and Tama counties. A major disaster declaration from President Obama would authorize long-term federal recovery programs that help pay to fix or replace damaged facilities, loans for essential government services and grants for public schools.
