Several days high heat triggered a small “pavement explosion” in Des Moines this morning. The Des Moines Register says a northbound piece of E 30th Street near E University buckled. City Public Works Director Bill Stowe says water vapor trapped by concrete propbably expanded forcing the pavement to pop. Traffic disruption was minor.
