Judge Not a Fan of Secrets in Malpractice Settlements

A judge has a problem with a clause in settlements of medical malpractice suits involving University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Des Moines Register reports it requires plaintiffs never to discuss how much they were paid. Judge Eliza Ovrom first refused, but later approved a settlement where UIHC doctors were accused of botching a procedure that led to a Des Moines veteran's death, with the provision that its' details of the $475,000 deal were public record under state law.
