Work's started on a new homeless shelter in downtown Des Moines. Over 100 people showed up for a groundbreaking ceremony at 1420 Mulberry St., just north of MLK Parkway. KCCI reports the new shelter will be able to provide emergency housing for 150 people and offer more space for showers, a kitchen, restrooms and an education room. $12-million of the $14-million needed to finish the project's already been raised.
