DEATH OF POLICE K9 INVESTIGATED

The Des Moines Police department is still investigating the death of one of their police dogs.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death of Harley, a 7 year old Labrador retriever assigned to the narcotics team. Haley was found dead iin an unmarked patrol car by his human partner, Officer Brian Mathis on August 29th. The air temperature in that car had reached the low 90's when the dogs body was discovered. Police believe the dog's death was heat-related.

Investigators are checking how long Harley was left inside the vehicle and whether the air conditioner was on or any windows were rolled down.
