A 7-year-old Urbandale girl sustained several broken bones in an all-terrain vehicle accident over the weekend, and now her father has been charged with operating while intoxicated and child endangerment.
The accident occurred Saturday on a private gravel road in West Des Moines. 32 year old Andrew Stamatelos of Urbandale told police that he and his daughter were both thrown from their ATV after he struck a cement sewer pipe on the side of the road.
Neither was wearing a helmet. Stamatelos told police he drank two beers about 30 minutes before the accident. A preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.104.
