Beliefs May Keep Boy Wrestler from Competing Against Girls in State Tourney

A Linn-Mar wrestler may not show up for his match because of religious reasons. Joel Northrup of Linn-Mar is scheduled to wrestle Cassy Herkelman, a female wrestler from Cedar Falls at 112-pounds in Class 3-A, this morning on the second day of the State Tournament. The Register reports, because of his family’s religious beliefs he may chose to not wrestle Herkelman.
There is a way for him to default the match and continue in the tournament, but Megan Black, the other female qualifier, is also a 112-pounder.
