Redistricting Effort Underway as IA Loses a Congressional Seat

Iowa's redistricting is now underway. U.S. census results determine how the political lines in our state are drawn. The state agency tasked with the work has an extra issue to factor in this time, the loss of a congressional seat. On Friday, members held their first meeting to go over how it will work. There are some criteria they must follow when drawing it out.

They will need to make each of the four districts as close in population as possible. For the congressional levels, counties can't be split. After they have the map drawn it will go to the temporary redistricting commission, which will bring the map to the public these meetings will be the first week in April. The locations will most likely be Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs and Davenport.
