Iowa Department of Transportation officials said they're fielding a lot of questions about why roads are so bumpy and why there are so many potholes. DOT officials said a combination of factors, including an aging and deteriorating road system, an unusual amount of snow, and of course the freeze-thaw cycle. Crews are making some temporary pothole patches; permanent fixes a couple of months away whent higns warm up.
